Sandwich Bread

I stumbled over this while searching for a really good bread recipe. Having tried several and the results not as I would have like it to be – some were too heavy, too crumby or just didn’t taste as good bread should! And then I tried this sandwich bread recipe and it was (and still is) the best recipe for a reat bread. Did this one by hand too…

Sandwich Bread Recipe

2 cups warm water
2 Tblsp sugar
1Tblsp dry active yeast (1 sachet)
1 tsp salt
5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/2 Tblsp butter, softened (can use marg)

In a bowl pour water and sugar – dissolve then add yeast and mix again – set aside 10 minutes or until foamy.

Add the flour and salt. Slice up butter into small pieces and mix in. Knead ingredients together – about 10 mins. The dough should be elastic and not sticking to everything.

Grease dish, place dough in, cover and leave to rise – approx 1 hour.

Then punch down and knead again. Divide dough into 3 or 4 pieces, shape and place into pans and leave to rise – 1 hour.
