Steak Pie

Another delicious meal idea to share with you…

You will need:
Shortcrust pastry (see breads)
250g steak, cubed (any cut you like)
1-2 medium tomatoes, chopped
1 medium onion, sliced
2 medium potatoes, cubed
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tsp crushed garlic
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp tumeric powder
1/2 tsp crushed coriander powder
1/2 tsp crushed cumin powder
1/4 tsp texan spice
1/4 tsp portuguese spice
2 Tblsp tomato puree/paste
2 Tblsp Worcester Sauce
2 Tblsp Sweet Chilli Sauce
2 Tblsp flour
Salt to taste
Saute onion is 2-3 tablespoons of oil for a few minutes. Add steak – cook until sealed. Then add rest of ingredients and potatoes – leave to cook for 5 minutes on medium to high heat. Add 1 cup water and leave to simmer on a lower heat till done. Your steak mixture should not be dry. Mix the flour with water and make a smooth paste. Add to the steak mixture and mix well. It will thicken – add more water if the steak has become too thick.
Grease your pie casserole/tin. Roll out your shortcrust pastry dough and line it on sides and bottom of dish. Add cooled steak mixture and cover with another piece of dough. Brush with egg or milk and sprinkle with dried herbs if you like. Bake at 180 degrees until golden and the pastry has left the sides of the dish.
Note:
– The steak mixture will also thicken a bit whilst in the oven.
– Texan and Portuguese spices are optional. You can add in another flavor spice or leave it out.
– You can leave out the tomatoes completely. It depends on your preference. Cooking is all about taste and adjusting for your own preference.
