Chilli Bites

In the summer time for a light snack, in the winter for a comforting snack, unexpected visitors, etc…

A bajia also known as a chilli bite is a quick an easy snack. It’s a spicy little ball of fried batter that can be made at any time.

1 cup gram/pea flour

2 Tblsp flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp crushed green chillies

1 tsp cummin powder

2 tsp dhania powder

1/2 tsp whole cummin

1 medium sized onion, sliced

2 lettuce leaves, chopped

1 tsp salt

Mix all the above ingredients. Add half cup water and mix. Add water a tablespoon at a time if required. Batter should be of a medium consistency – not too thick nor should it be watery.

Spoon tablespoons or use your hands to scoop small amounts into hot deep oil. Fry until golden on both sides.

NOTE:

– If oil is too hot the batter will brown too quickly and the inside will be uncooked.

– Pea flour also known as peasemeal.

– Gram flour also known as chickpea flour.
