Crunchy, yummy, cinnamon, not overly sweet goodness… Is all I can say to describe this recipe…
Here in South Africa, different flavors, sweet and savoury popcorn is definitely trending… Unlike many other countries where popcorn heaven has already been met! But, nevertheless, it is here! As delicious as these popcorns may be, they sure do cost a fair bit.
I just had to search for a recipe to try making my own. This recipe is a start to many more scrumptious flavours to come. Winter is soon upon us and there are many out there who seek popcorn and a hot cuppa. The perfect snack to a cold dreary day outside.
Home made cinnamon popcorn…
175 g popcorn popped
40 g butter
50 g sugar
1 tablespoon water
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
1 tsp cinnamon powder
1/4 tsp salt
Line a baking tray with wax paper.
Place popcorn in a large bowl.
In a saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add the sugar, water, vanilla extract, cinnamon and salt; cook and stir over low heat until sugar is dissolved.
Pour butter mixture over popcorn; toss and mix with a spoon till popcorn is fully coated.
Transfer coated popcorn onto the baking tray.
Bake in the oven, uncovered, at 150°C. Stir mixture every three or four minutes. Taste after 15 minutes. It should be crisp and crunchy. If not, leave for a few minutes longer.
Take out of the oven and keep stirring the mixture every few minutes. As the mixture cools, the popcorn will get nice and crispy.
When the popcorn is cold you can drizzle chocolate over. Pop into the fridge for a few minutes to set. Then store in a airtight container.
